Home heating, cooling and air

Repairs, replacements, ducts and filtration for houses in Yakima, Selah, Union Gap and Naches.

Cooling

A valley summer is a real test

Hot, dry and long. Equipment that was adequate in June can be three degrees short in the last week of July, and the cause is usually one of four things: a condenser coil loaded with dust and cottonwood, a charge that is low because of a slow leak, restricted airflow indoors, or duct runs losing cooling into a roasting attic.

All four are measurable, and three of them cost far less to fix than a new system. We check them in that order rather than starting with a quote.

  • Repairs

Diagnosed with instruments, priced in writing, with what else is close to failing noted.

  • Replacement

Sized from the house at this elevation and climate, with the ductwork tested before anything is ordered.

  • Evaporative coolers

Still common in the valley. We service them and are honest about the weeks when one cannot cope.

Heating

And then it is January

  • Gas furnacesIgnition, flame sensors, pressure switches and limits. A furnace that lights and drops out is nearly always airflow or a safety doing its job.
  • Heat pumpsThey work well here for most of the winter. What matters is when the backup heat is allowed on and how the defrost behaves.
  • Electric furnacesSimple and dependable, expensive to run hard. Worth comparing against a heat pump at replacement time.
  • SafetyGas smell, soot, or a suspect heat exchanger is a stop-now matter. We shut it down and say so plainly.

Filtration, without the health claims

A deeper filter cabinet filters better and restricts airflow less than a tight one-inch filter, which is why we fit them where the equipment allows. That is a mechanical statement, not a medical one.

We will not tell you what a filter does for your health. We will tell you what it removes from the air it sees, how often it needs changing on your site, and whether your blower can carry it.

Ducts

The room that has never been right

Additions, converted garages, finished basements and bedrooms built where a porch used to be — the valley's housing stock has all of them, and the ductwork usually grew one run at a time.

We measure static pressure and airflow at the problem room before proposing anything, because the answer is often a return, a damper or a repair rather than equipment.
